We are pleased to present Vibration Control Software (VCS) for LASERUSB and COMETUSB. This Readme file includes information on Installation, and provides Hints and Tips, Troubleshooting guides, and a list of resolved problems.

Recommended PC

We strongly recommend that you update your installation to the latest major release to ensure that the latest security updates from Microsoft® are supported by your installation.

Warnings:

Windows Vista® and Windows® XP are not supported; and Windows® 8 (x32) is not supported.

Installing VCS

Note:

The installation program will install the driver for your LASERUSB or COMETUSB device. We recommend installing the software before connecting to your device. If, however, you connect the device before installing the software, simply cancel any dialog boxes from Microsoft that attempt to install or download the driver for a new device.

If you are installing from the DVD:

  1. Insert the DVD. If the PC does not have a DVD drive, you can:
  2. The setup window should start immediately. If it does not, run "Setup.exe" from the DVD's root level.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

If you are installing from the USB:

  1. Insert the USB Stick.
  2. Run "Setup.exe" from the folder containing the installation files.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

If you have downloaded VCS from the Web:

  1. Extract the zip file.
  2. Run "Setup.exe" from the folder to which the data was extracted.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Installing License Keys

To retrieve your license:

  1. Find the device's serial number at the back of your LASERUSB or COMETUSB. If you have an Expansion Box, you need its serial number as well.
  2. Contact HBK UK Support and provide your device serial number(s).
  3. The first time you launch each application, it will prompt you to enter the license key. Copy the key from the documents provided from HBK UK, and paste it into the dialog.
  4. Alternatively, the license string unique_id can be imported from a single line text file. Use the 'Help | Set License Key' dialog and click 'Import'.

Upgrading from VCS 9.0:

  1. The first time you launch each application, it will prompt you to enter the license key. Copy the key from the documents provided from HBK UK, and paste it into the dialog.
  2. Alternatively, the license string unique_id can be imported from a single line text file. Use the 'Help | Set License Key' dialog and click 'Import'.
  3. You will also need to copy your LaserUSB or COMETUSB calibration files to the 'bin' directory where you have installed VCS 9.2 'Shaker Control'.

Installation Troubleshooting

Antivirus software

If an unexpected dialog appears during installation, disconnect from the Internet and disable your antivirus software's real-time scanner. You should disconnect from the Internet before disabling part of your antivirus software to protect yourself from web-based attacks while the real-time scanning software is disabled. Your antivirus software's options can usually be displayed by clicking on its icon on the task bar.

Failed Installation

If you are experiencing issues when running the installation setup, try rebooting your PC, then run the installation again. If you continue to experience issues, remove any existing installations via Add/Remove Programs, then reboot and run the installation again.

USB Driver Issues

If you have a LaserUSB or COMETUSB connected to the PC, remove power and disconnect the USB cable before running this installation.

Removing or Adding an Expansion Box

If you add or remove an Expansion Box, you must power down the Master Controller to reset its state properly.
